Rampage Teknikal 3 by Pearsall on Mixcloud

The Rampage Technikal series of mixes were designed to showcase my taste in techno as well as my taste for other related styles of music, for instance electro and breaks, as featured on volumes four and five (which I will be putting up soon). This mix, in turn, was quite housey and even at the end never got anywhere near as hard as the ending of, say, Rampage Teknikal 2.

I suppose with all of my mixes the idea was to create a progression and to cover different moods and styles, although obviously remaining within a coherent sonic spectrum. I’ve never really had much interest in doing what I guess you could call ‘hipster dance’ mixes, the style popularized by people like Diplo (not that I don’t think he’s good at what he does … he’s certainly far better technically than me!) where you throw together electro, house, rock, hip-hop and whatever else you want (as long as it’s fashionable amongst bloggers!). I’ve always been a partisan of the straightforward genre mix, and this mix is certainly an example of that. It starts off with deep house and then slowly makes its way into some techno, but it never gets very minimal or very banging (although I suppose that is a matter of perspective!). Mixing-wise, the middle is a bit choppy at moments, but all in all I think this mix hangs together pretty well five years on, especially the end, which is just one slamming track after another.
